Update: Northwest to remain closed until 6 a.m. Wednesday, all activities canceled

Due to weather conditions and for the safety of students and employees, the Northwest campus is closed until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Online classes will continue without interruption. For on-ground courses, students should check their University email accounts and Canvas for communication about coursework and other assignments.

All other University activities are canceled during the closure, and all Northwest facilities are closed with the exception of residence halls as well as Bearcat Commons in the J.W. Jones Student Union, the Robert and Virginia Foster Fitness Center, and the Student Recreation Center during the hours listed below.

  • Bearcat Commons is open for dining until 10 p.m. Saturday, Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • The Foster Fitness Center and Student Recreation Center will open to students and employees for fitness and recreation activities from noon to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Individuals should use the main entrance of the Foster Fitness Center to access the facility.

Students should refer to the Student Account Services website at 9zz9v.litpliant.net/studentaccounts/financialdates.htm for important financial dates and the registrar’s office website at 9zz9v.litpliant.net/registrar/calendar.htm for important add/drop information.

Northwest urges students and employees to monitor weather conditions to maintain safety. Be aware of your surroundings and take precautions. 

The Northwest community and area residents may monitor current weather conditions and campus operations by following official Northwest social media accounts, visiting the University Police Department’s website or by tuning into KXCV-KRNW 90.5 FM or 88.9 FM. Additional information is accessible at www.weather.gov.

Warming centers available in Maryville

The National Weather Service is forecasting extremely cold temperatures. To assist residents, Nodaway County Emergency Management has designated warming stations at the following Maryville locations and times:

United Methodist Church, 102 N. Main St.
  • Sunday, Jan. 14: 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Monday, Jan. 15: 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 16: 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Jan. 17: 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. (a free meal is served from 5:15 to 6 p.m.)
  • Thursday, Jan. 18: 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Maryville Public Library, 509 N. Main St.
  • Saturday, Jan. 13: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 16, through Friday, Jan. 19: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Maryville Community Center, 1408 N. Country Club Road
  • Saturday, Jan. 13: 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, Jan. 14: Noon to 5 p.m.
  • Monday, Jan. 15, through Friday, Jan. 19: 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
